Meet Zahra Marie Ronizi – A Trailblazer at the Intersection of Space and Science

She got into Harvard University a year ago, and ever since, Zahra has been unstoppable. Currently pursuing a dual focus in Biomedical Engineering and Astrophysics, she is a shining example of how dedication, brilliance, and courage can pave the way toward the stars—literally.

But Zahra is more than just a student—

She is a hero in biology research.

Her groundbreaking work spans across institutions and continents. From conducting regenerative neurobiology and gene therapy research at the University of Cambridge, to her role as a Biomedical Engineering researcher at The University of Texas at Austin, Zahra is exploring how spaceflight affects the human body and how we can adapt and heal beyond Earth.

As a NASA SEES intern and Analog Astronaut, she has lived inside a Mars simulation habitat in a cave in Santander, Spain, performing EVAs (extravehicular activities) and collecting research samples as a Crew Biologist.

And that’s not all—

Zahra also joined the Iceland Geospace Research Expedition, walking the same rugged terrains that trained Apollo astronauts, studying Martian geology and astrobiology up close.

Through her work with Space Iceland, University of Cambridge, and NASA-affiliated programs, Zahra has become a name to remember in the field of human space exploration and space medicine.

As the Founder of the Odyssey Scholarship Program, Zahra is helping to bridge opportunity gaps and provide aspiring scientists with access to global opportunities—proving she’s not only driven by her dreams, but also by a desire to lift others up.

She’s also a scuba diver, a student pilot, and has earned scholarships from Cambridge, NASA, and American Geophysical Union, where she published research on Mars mission sustainability.

At just 19, Zahra’s story is nothing short of extraordinary—and FIA is honored to share and celebrate her journey.

She is the future. She is the moment. She is Zahra.
